Good design needs a good business guy

At some point we designers have the unpleasant realization that not only are lots of crappy designs getting green-lit, but that a lot of kick-ass projects are simply never going to make it to market. Why? We're sure there's plenty of answers, but for now we'll stick with one: business. Except for a few lucky cases, great design without good business brains behind it will always have a tough time seeing the light of day.

For almost my entire career--15 years--I've been the business guy in the creative shop... What I proved to be good at was finding ways to bring business rigor to creative environments. I realized you have to do two things: make money and build an environment where creative folks can excel. Both are difficult.
