ID student's best-case-scenario: from intern to full-time staff

Every ID student wonders: Will an internship lead to a job? Well, it can--just read the story of Bethany Klausing, an ID student from Alabama who became "one of the most dynamic emerging design talents" in the world of ceiling fans. Her Origami fan, designed during her junior year, now graces the cover of Emerson Fans' catalog; currently a full-time staffer at Emerson (a company with US $22.6 billion in sales last year), Klausing is responsible for an entire line (the Elite Series).
"It's crazy busy. I have 20 projects going on at once," says Klausing. "But I love it. I still get to focus on the creative process and I love that I am developing more than an appliance, but a part of home decor." Not too shabby for someone who, a mere two years ago, was living in semesters and having "Doritos and Mountain Dew for breakfast."
